My Visit with the Rescue Cats of the Lanai Cat Sanctuary

If you’re a cat lover like I am, add the Lanai Cat Sanctuary to your bucket list immediately! I don’t know how it took so long for me to hear about this wonderful place on the island of Lanai. Thank goodness I was only a few days into my vacation on Maui when I heard someone mention the cat sanctuary on Lanai. I quickly searched Google for information about the sanctuary and booked my trip by ferry boat for the following morning. It’s a 45 minute ferry ride and there is a shuttle at the landing dock at Lanai to bring you to the sanctuary along with the other cat lover’s you are likely to meet on your trip. You don’t need an appointment to visit the sanctuary, they are open daily from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, you’ll want to bring plenty of water and some snacks if you plan on staying there for long.

After signing in and getting a quick tour of the place from one of the friendly staff members you can just wander the property and hang out with all the cats, if you sit in the grass you will immediately be surrounded by friendly kitties wanting some attention, if you sit on a bench they will be clamoring for a spot on your lap. I was in heaven, and three hours just wasn’t long enough for me.

I did purchase an adorable t-shirt to remind me of the awesome day I spent with the cats at the sanctuary, there’s a reason why it’s listed on TripAdvisor’s Top Ten Things to Do while in Lanai.
